National Pickling Cucumber Seeds
This is one of the best cucumber varieties designed for pickling use.
This variety was introduced in 1929 by the National Pickle Packers Association and specially selected for its adaptability at harvesting at different sizes from babies to biggies up to 6ins long. It is a high yielding, vigorous vine, easy to grow outdoors as a ridge cucumber; as good now as it was then! 10ft expected vine height/length
Sow indoors Mar-Apr for indoor cropping or later transplanting out May-Jun. Sow 3 seeds 1/4" deep into small pots of free draining moist seed compost. Propagate 70°F. Germination takes 7-10 days. Protect seedlings from direct sunlight to prevent scorching. Thin to strongest seedling asap. Grow plants until they are large enough to handle. Keep compost moist not wet. If keeping in greenhouse allow 2 plants per growbag or pot. If planting outside acclimatise for 7-10 days. Plant in rows 3 ft apart. Prefers rich soil with plenty of organic matter. Can be sown directly May-Jun.
